Holiday Recommendations

With Valentine's Day approaching, give a wonderful Valentine Gift to Yourself or Someone You Love

Check out the following books as a complement to your own spiritual practice or as a loving gift.

"You Can Heal Your Life" (Gift Edition) by Louise Hay
Louise's key message is: "If we are willing to do the mental work, almost anything can be healed. Life is really very simple. What we give out, we get back. What we think about ourselves becomes the truth for us. I believe that everyone, myself included, is responsible for everything in our lives, the best and the worst. Every thought we think is creating our future. Each one of us creates our experiences by our thoughts and our feelings."

"The Prospering Power of Love" by Catherine Ponder
Catherine Ponder says, "of all of the self-help books I have written in the past several decades, "The Prospering Power of Love" is the one I have most often recommended first, to people who are beginning their inspirational search; second, to people with personal relationship problems, which almost everyone experiences on occasion as a part of their growth into greater understanding; and third, to people who are looking for a book containing a simple yet inspirational approach they can share with others as a means of help." [Currently being used by the OPCRS Prosperity Class.]

"The Mastery of Love" by don Miguel Ruiz
In "The Mastery of Love", don Miguel Ruiz illuminates the fear-based beliefs and assumptions that undermine love and lead to suffering and drama in our relationships. Using insightful stories to bring his message to life, Ruiz shows us how to heal our emotional wounds, recover the freedom and joy that are our birthright, and restore the spirit of playfulness that is vital to loving relationships. "Happiness can only come from inside of you and is the result of your love. When you are aware that no one else can make you happy, and that happiness is the result of your love, this becomes the greatest mastery, the Mastery of Love."

"Love and Law" by Dr. Ernest Holmes
Early lectures and private lessons from celebrated spiritual teacher Dr. Ernest Holmes, "Love and Law" illustrates the key concepts behind his influential ideas. Holmes was a beloved teacher and philosopher with a disarmingly simple message: Change your thinking, and you will change your life. "There is a creative law in the universe," Holmes reasoned, "and it is available to each of us right now through our thought patterns." We can, quite literally, think our way to happiness and contentment. It is a splendid testament to the living philosophy of this remarkable guide and thinker.

Leadership Favorites

This Thing Called You
We are featuring a book selection from Church Leadership that is available in or can be ordered from the OPCRS Bookstore.

This time, Rev. Dr. Glory Heyde's favorite book:

"This Thing Called You" by Ernest Holmes

This beloved classic has awakened generations to the Power within. One of Ernest Holmes's cornerstone works, "This Thing Called You" is an intimate guide through which readers learn the important lesson of how they are an immutable part of the flow of life, and how they may fulfill the longing, within all of us, to live more fully. The book details methods of meditation used for healing, improving mind and body, and reaching one’s divine self. Included are numerous inspirational ideas, meditations, and prayers that individuals can apply to their lives, which reveal the unlimited potential of the spiritual psychology that Holmes founded.

Rev. Dr. Glory says, "Ernest Holmes is always one of my favorite authors, and I love 'This Thing Called You'. It is the complete Science of Mind teaching in its simplest, most concise form. The book has wonderful affirmations that are simple and clear to understand, and it shows the beginner to our teaching how to use affirmations and treatments in the SOM”.

The book is available in the OPCRS bookstore!

Book Review

"Healing Without Medicine"
by Dr. Albert Amao and Mitch Horowitz

Reviewed by Janice Newman

"Healing Without Medicine" is a comprehensive, enjoyable, and highly readable study chronicling the history and examining the science of the belief that man can heal himself through the power of mind.

The authors, Dr. Albert Amao and Mitch Horowitz, take the reader on a tour of mind-based healing from the work of Franz Mesmer through the development of the New Thought movement in America and the contributions of American and European thinkers and practitioners.

New Thought, which thrives today in such teachings as Unity, Science of Mind, and Divine Science, contributed much to the current theories and practices of alternative modalities of healing, and gave rise as well to the development of Positive Thinking and the notion that man can achieve success and happiness through the power of the mind.

The authors' aim is to provide a rational explanation of the power of thought to heal the mind and body. All methods of mind/spiritual healing are self-healing, they say; and we all have an inner capacity to heal ourselves. This book covers healing without medicine methodologies from the 1800s to the present time.

This is a must-read book for anyone interested in learning the power of self-healing through the power of the mind. Evidence-based research shows you the reasons how what you think, believe, and feel can either heal or harm your body. "Healing without Medicine" clearly explains how thinking is the most powerful function of good health. The authors clearly give us the steps to be truly healthy while reducing stress.

The book examines the outstanding contributions to the theory and doctrine of Mind Healing by Thomas Troward (1847-1916), founder of Mental Science; Emile Coué (1857-1926), discoverer of the Placebo Effect, and Dr. Ernest Holmes (1887-1960), founder of Religious Science.

It is thorough, clearly written, and easy to understand. I highly recommend "Healing Without Medicine" as a book that can change your life and personally empower you to be responsible for your own health and well-being.
